Top o' the Mornin' to Ya!

** I just got my SmartStrand area rug in the mail and it's better than laying on a sun-warmed, lush towel! Go enter to win your own here! Choose "Lady Goats" from the drop down menu. I'll have a full post on it on Monday! **

It's summer break, so between the Big Kid's best friend's house and mine, we have five kids to handle!

Five.

And four of those are usually at my house.

This means that I have to think of stuff for everyone to do so that I'm not constantly hearing, "There's nothing to DOOOOooooooooooooooo!" or "I'm booooooreeeeeeeddddddddddddd"... Or, the worst one yet, everyone fighting over what to do.

That last one is a quick way to get Lady Goats upset.

So I've been thinking for a while that I'd have them decorate some mini top hats from my tutorial!

There hasn't really be a "right time" to do it (I don't have many hat decorating supplies and then there's the act of actually MAKING them), so it was put off...

... Until Wednesday, when my friend London and I were at Michael's and she mentioned that she had a ton of stuff they could decorate the hats with.

So I made some top hats from construction paper

and we went to their house!

Did I mention that London had a lot of decorating supplies?

This wasn't even half of it. It's like a craft room threw up on the table! We loved it!

The big kid decorated this hat (with adult glue gun help)

And here's a shot of [almost] all of them!

After the hats were decorated, we hot glued them to some hard plastic dollar store headbands. In the tutorial, I had only done it attached to hair clips... I think the headbands are an awesome option because heavy clips tug on hair.

Overall, I think this is a great afternoon craft for the kiddos over summer break, and they'll make for some super cute themed pictures later.

Do any of you have any craft suggestions for summer break? How do you maintain your sanity?
